This work has been spearheaded and contributed to by a collective of doctors, healthcare professionals and students from across the UK; all motivated by a desire to reverse the tangible harms of racism in the UK. More than 9/10 of the writers are Black, Asian or from an Ethnic Minority therefore having a lived as well as academic grasp of the subject.
As such, with this work being written from this singular medical perspective, one of its weaknesses is that the views and experiences of other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare workforce have not been included. It is our hope that this work encourages a further look at the barriers and opportunities for colleagues beyond the medical profession as there is much work to be done in order to improve outcomes for all healthcare professionals in the UK.
The authors deeply value and draw on the work done by thought leaders outside of the medical profession, as the bulk of the work on racial justice is done by psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists & historians; many of whom are closely referenced.
